Art Deco houses were a product of an optimistic industrial age in which consumers were encouraged to prefer smooth, clean lines and dramatic geometric shapes in everything from automobiles to houses. Some identifying features of the Art Deco house are:
- Cubic and other geometric forms
- Smooth wall surfaces, usually made of stucco
- Flat roofs
- Zigzags, chevrons, and other stylized and geometric motifs occurring as decorative elements on façades
